Wine Tours in the Cellar

Umbria is a region that offers many opportunities to those who decide to spend their holidays here: not just food and active tourism, but also wine tourism in the Cellar, where you can spend a day outdoor tasting the specialities that our land offers.

Thanks to our collaboration with several wineries in Umbria, it is possible to become wine tourist for a day; we propose an experience that Lavinia, our Web Marketing manager, made for you at the Roccafiore Winery.

It starts with the Safari in Vineyard, aboard a very nice 4 × 4 and the guide of a local expert, who illustrates in details the various aspects of wine production. And you can’t miss a visit to the Cinta Senese piglets! Then we proceed with the guided tour of the production and aging cellar and with the tasting of the wines in pairing with a selection of traditional products from the farm. Cinta Senese cold cuts, bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil, home-made pastry: you can choose to taste 5 or 9 wines, with the help of an expert sommelier.

However, not only this awaits you at the Roccafiore Cellar: for example, it is possible to organize the “Grechetto Pic-Nic”, on the summer terrace of the cellar, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Local products and typical white and red checkered tablecloths. The picnic basket includes a sandwich with Cinta Senese cold cuts or cheese, panzanella, a seasonal fruit and homemade tozzetti with a Roccafiore wine tasting.  An informal and eco-friendly experience to enjoy outdoors in family or with friends in total relax, in contact with the nature. For the most active people there is a Nordic Walking in the vineyard, with the help of poles similar to those for skiing. And for the sweet tooth? There is the Cooking Class.

January-Epiphany in Perugia

The Epiphany is one of the most important Feasts of the Christian tradition because it symbolically represents the moment in which Jesus appears to the world through the coming and the adoration of the three Wise Men. These, according to tradition, led by a comet, crossed the desert on the back of a camel to bring myrrh, incense and gold as gifts to the Child born in a manger. Indeed, the etymology of the term means exactly “manifestation”, “appearance”, which the Christian tradition interpreted as a manifestation of the Lord after his advent into the world.

What day is the Epiphany?

The day of the Epiphany is celebrated on the 6th January in the Catholic and Anglican tradition and is one of the most important religious holidays for the Church. It is the feast that symbolically concludes the period of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, hence the proverb “Epiphany carries away all festivities”, to indicate the return to working life after a long pause.

What to do for Epiphany 2020 in Perugia?

Umbria is a land full of events to organize a trip for the Epiphany Feast in name of the tradition, not only for children but for the whole family. As usual, the night before Epiphany, Befana brings something as gift in her bag to all the children…

Who is the Befana?

La Befana is an ugly old woman who flies on a broom in the night before Epiphany carrying many gifts in a big bag for all the children. This is why in every house children leave a hanging sock that the Befana will fill with toys or sweets if the child behaved well, or coal (sweet!) if he/she misbehaved. But there will always be a gift for everyone!!! The arrival of the Befana is recalled in many villages of Umbria, where  at nightfall the old woman goes down from the bell towers or from the high walls with gifts for all the children.

Where to go for Epiphany 2020 in Umbria?

The 2018 Epiphany Feast in Umbria offers to the whole family the opportunity to organize trips, not only to celebrate the arrival of the Befana but also to visit the countless villages. In many villages, the Befana arrives in vary original ways: with the classic broom lowered from the sky by firemen, on a motorbike with policemen, by boat at Lake Trasimeno with a fisherman, running a marathon or even on skates on wheels in Perugia!!! In the evening, in some places, it is also possible to enjoy the tradition of bonfires, which symbolically symbolize the passage from the old to the new year; they warm the atmosphere by filling the streets with magic lights. But Umbria is also a land of living nativity scenes and the Epiphany often closes the long period of the Christmas festivities with the arrival of the Wise Men on real horses to bring their gifts to the Child Jesus.

How to get to Perugia for Epiphany 2020?

It is easy to get to Perugia for the 2020 Epiphany weekend: you can arrive by car, by train and why not, even by bus!

Epiphany 2020 in Perugia by car

Getting to Perugia by car is very convenient, especially because you can park in the Etruscan Chocohotel parking and then moving by bus without the stress of seeking for parking in the centre, in as much as Perugia will still be in excitement because of the Christmas markets in the Rocca Paolina. Outside the hotel you will find the bus stop for Fontivegge Station or for the old town, which can also be reached with the Minimetrò, which is just a few meters away.

Epiphany 2020 in Perugia by train

By train you will arrive at Fontivegge Station where you can easily reach our hotel by bus and use the Minimetro to reach the city centre.

Epiphany 2020 by bus

If you decide to get to Perugia by bus, Flixbus stops at Piazza Umbria Jazz where you can take the Minimetrò which in a few minutes takes you to Fontivegge Station or directly in the old town.
